BRUTALISATION OF F.G.G.C. TEACHERS BY OPERATIVES OF THE DSS; AN ACT OF OFFICIAL RASCALITY

By CDHR

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) condemn in its totality the official rascality displayed by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday 2nd February, 2017 by beating teachers of the Federal Government Girls College, Calabar just because one of their officers’ daughter who attend the school was beaten (with other students) for failing to sweep their class.

Not only were these teachers physically beaten in front of their students as reported in most newspapers, live ammunitions were fired at the arrival of the DSS men to scare and injure the psyche of the teachers while their valuables were stolen by the marauders.

The mother of this pupil who invited her colleagues to storm the school (Mrs. Asuquo and her co-travellers) should be heavily sanctioned by the DSS while adequate compensation paid and unreserved public apology should be tendered to the teachers and the Association they belong to.

We use this medium to tell the DSS boss, Fubara Duke to reprimand his officers instead of covering up for them as he is presently doing.

If this rascal act should be allowed to go unchecked, we would be setting a bad precedence for the students who are leaders of tomorrow that Nigeria is a lawless country where anything goes.

We enjoined the Federal Ministry of Education and the Cross Rivers state government to react now.
